OXFORD, Ohio--The Miami University men's swimming team swam to an impressive win over the Xavier Musketeers Saturday (Oct. 20) at the Corwin A. Nixon Aquatic Center. With two first-place finishes from freshman Evan Bader and sophomore Joe Baumgartner, the RedHawks defeated Xavier 150 - 109.

Overall, Head Coach Pete Lindsay was happy with the performance his team put out this weekend.

"I was pleased across the board," said Lindsay. "You were seeing tight splitting at the end of races and seeing people that were swimming smart, not taking their races out too fast."

Bader earned two first-place finishes to kick off his career with Miami in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Bader took control of the 100 breast, touching the wall in a time of 59.17, beating his teammate Will Olsen who finished in 59.32. Bader was victorious again in the 200 breast with a time of 2:09.61, finishing a whole six seconds before Olsen.

Freshman Sean Neri also had a strong opening meet, finishing first in the 500 free in a time of 4:48.17 and tallying a third-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 9:53.18.

Baumgartner dominated the freestyle races, touching the wall first in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.09. He battled against Xavier swimmer Luke Johanns to win the 100 free with a time of 46.17.

Sophomore Andy Kilkenney swam to a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.20. Teammate Chris Dieter finished a second later in 1:43.40 to take second place.

Senior Alex Reinhardt led the way for Miami in the 1000 freestyle, swimming to a first-place finish in 9:43.65. Junior Sean Minderlein finished six seconds later with a time of 9:49.21. Minderlein took a second-place finish behind Xavier's Chad Thompson in the 400 IM with a time of 4:22.69.

The RedHawks defeated Xavier in the 400 medley relay when Ian Joyce, Anderson Whipp, Michael Cavanaugh, and Baumgartner swam the relay with a time of 3:27.93. Baumgartner hit the wall a whole second before Xavier to give Miami the win.

The men's swimming team will be back in action Friday, Oct. 26 when they pair up with the women's team again for their second home meet of the season against Evansville.
