2013-2014: Jelen began his career as a RedHawk with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay and a fifth-place finish in the 200 butterfly against Xavier. Against Cleveland State, he took fourth in the 200 medley relay and fifth in the 100 backstroke. In the 200 medley relay, against Purdue, he finished third. He was sixth in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. He finished fifth in the 200 freestyle relay against the Boilermakers as well. At the Miami Invitational, Jelen finished 21st in the 200 butterfly, 18th in the 100 backstroke and 19th in the 100 butterfly. He was fifth in the 200 medley relay, seventh in the 100 backstroke, eighth in the 200 backstroke and fifth in the 100 butterfly against Cincinnati. Against Evansville, Jelen took seventh and fifth in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly, respectively. He was fifth in the 200 medley relay and fifth in the 100 butterfly against Buffalo. Jelen finished fourth in the 200 medley relay, against Eastern Michigan, and took fifth in the 100 butterfly. Against Ball State, Jelen finished third in the 400 medley relay and took first in the 200 IM.

High School: Swam for Mike DeBear at Upper Arlington High School… a four-year letter winner and captain senior year in swimming… a three-year letter winner and captain senior year in four years of water polo… member of state runner-up team his junior and senior year and helped water polo team to state championship in 2012… an Academic All-American his senior year… an All-American in the 200 medley relay in his sophomore, junior and senior years and was an All-American in the 200 free relay his senior year… 1st team All-Ohio in water polo in 2012… graduated Cum Laude.

Personal: Son of Scott Jelen and Daryl Cottrell… born January 25, 1995… a four-year Special Olympics volunteer… majoring in Kinesiology and Pre-med.
