COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Ryan Elble belted two home runs for the Miami University baseball team, but Tennessee Tech scored in all but two innings to defeat the RedHawks 13-5 on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles (21-5) pulled off a midweek series sweep as the Red and White (10-12) dropped their second-straight game.

After being held to two hits in Tuesday’s opener, Miami got to work offensively right away with three first-inning knocks. Dan Walsh’s second home run of the season gave the RedHawks a 1-0 lead two batters into the contest.

The Golden Eagles cracked three doubles in the bottom of the inning to plate two runs and grab a 2-1 lead after the first. Daniel Miles’ gapper tied it up and Brandon Thomason’s double put TTU ahead. Tyler Brazelton’s second-inning sacrifice fly made it a 3-1 ballgame and Miles added an RBI single and Thomason’s two-run triple capped a four-run frame to put the Golden Eagles in front 6-1 after two innings.

Tennessee Tech added two more runs on a Zach Stephens’ solo homer and a Miami miscue in the third to make it an 8-1 contest. Thomason’s solo homer in the fourth gave the Golden Eagles nine-unanswered runs to extend their lead to 9-1.

Elble capped a three-run fifth for the Red and White when he launched his first home run of the season, a two-run shot that cut the deficit to 9-4. The Golden Eagles responded by scoring for the fifth-straight inning as Jake Rowland hit a three-run homer with two outs to bump their lead back to 12-4. Elble cracked his second homer of the day to pull MU within 12-5 in the eighth, but TTU added an unearned run in the bottom of the frame to cap the scoring.

Alex Brown (0-1) took the loss after allowing nine runs (eight earned) in four innings of work in his first start of the season. Elble finished up 3-for-4 with two homers and three RBI for the RedHawks. The junior entered the contest with one home run in 67 career games.

Miami returns to Mid-American Conference play on Friday when it opens a three-game series at Central Michigan. First pitch is at 3:05 p.m.
