CLEVELAND – For the second consecutive week, a Miami University pitcher was recognized by the Mid-American Conference for his performance.

Sophomore reliever Wynston McMartin (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) was named the MAC East Pitcher of the Week, capturing the honor for the first time in his career, on Monday.

With a 6-4 lead in the seventh inning at No. 10 Louisville last Friday, McMartin entered in relief of starter Seth Varner to face the tying run at the plate. After getting through the inning unscathed, the sophomore pitched two more scoreless innings to pick up a seven-out save.

Friday’s performance against the Cardinals was McMartin’s second save of the year. In five appearances, he has a 1.08 ERA with seven strikeouts over 8.1 innings.

The RedHawks are back in action on Tuesday when they host Xavier at 6 p.m.
