OXFORD, Ohio -- The Miami Baseball program honored its 2012 senior class Sunday morning when it hosted its annual awards brunch at Shriver Center. A video tribute was played during the meal before Head Coach Dan Simonds recognized deserving players for their efforts last season.
In addition to distributing Mid-American Conference awards that were announced throughout the regular and postseason, the coaching staff presented nine players with their Miami letter jackets, significiant of their becoming letterwinners for the first time.
First baseman Kevin Bower was named Most Valuable Player, while Shawn Marquardt took the Top Pitcher award. Matt Rosinski was named Top Reliever. Matt Honchel earned both the Top Hitter and Rookie of the Year honors.
Three players were honored with RedHawk Awards, symbolizing the character and attitude of a Miami Baseball player. They were left-handed pitcher Joe Neff, infielder Dan Walsh and right-handed pitcher Charles Zubrod. Team captains Bryce Redeker, Mac Thoreson and Rosinski also received plaques for their leadership.
Two special presentations were also made. DJ Wilhelm, the 2012 honorary captain, received an official jersey, while former baseball athletic trainer Paul Eversole received an engraved bat for his dedication to the program.
