OXFORD, Ohio -- Graduation may have come two days late, but it wasn't an less reason to celebrate for Miami's baseball players. A total of 10 RedHawks gathered with family, friends, teammates and athletic department staff members Monday evening for an alternate graduation ceremony. The team missed Saturday's university commencement while playing a road series at Kent State.
Six players and the team's student manager received their degrees, while three others are on track to graduate in the next few months. Those receiving degrees were Sam Dawes (bachelor's in business economics), Jon Edgington (bachelor's in microbiology), Ryan Kaup (bachelor's in economics), Tyler Melling (bachelor's in sport studies), Ryan Meyers (bachelor's in engineering management), Adam Weisenburger (bachelor's in sport studies) and Matt Sajna.
Seniors Brad Gschwind and Kyle Weldon and redshirt junior Ryan Campbell also went through the ceremony with their classmates.
Miami Faculty Athletic Representative Dr. Susan Lipnickey spoke to the graduates, while Provost Dr. Bobby Gempesaw issued remarks on behalf of the university.
