OXFORD, Ohio-Miami University's volleyball team cruised to a 25-12, 25-18, 25-16 win over Chicago State Saturday morning at the Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational, its second straight-set win of the season. The RedHawks improve to 3-6, while the Cougars drop to 2-9.

Miami opened up a 10-4 advantage in the first set with help from kills by junior middle hitter Kayleigh Cox, freshman outside hitter Annie Reiswig and freshman outside hitter Sarah Chaney and a junior libero Madison Hardy service ace. Chicago State closed within three points, 11-8, but the RedHawks rattled off nine unanswered points to seize a commanding 20-9 advantage. Senior outside hitter Christina Menche served up two aces during the Miami run, while Cox added two kills. CSU would get as close as 20-12, but Miami rounded out the first set scoring the final five points to open the match with a 25-12 win.

The RedHawks posted a quick 4-0 lead in the second set, but the Cougars came back to knot the score, 4-4. Miami led by as many as two until Chicago State tallied three unanswered points to post a 10-9 edge. Three straight sophomore setter/outside hitter Meg Riley kills helped the RedHawks notch a 15-13 lead. Miami went on to claim an 18-15 advantage, but the Cougars battled back to tie the set, 18-18. Sparked by a pair of blocks by Chaney and Cox, the RedHawks went on a 7-0 run to close out the second set. Cox put down a solo block to ice the second set for the Red and White, 25-18.

Chicago State took an early 3-1 lead in the third set, but a 5-0 RedHawk surge off a balanced offensive attack handed Miami a 6-3 advantage and a lead it would not relinquish. The RedHawks used a solid .387 hitting percentage to capture the third set, 25-16.

Riley paced the RedHawks with nine kills and 18 assists to lead all players and posted a .500 hitting percentage for the RedHawks. Cox tallied five blocks, while Chaney added four and senior outside hitter Lisa Treadway posted 11 digs in the winning effort.

Chicago State was led by Kimberly Linder with seven kills.

Miami returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening against Temple to round out the Miami Best Western Sycamore/Inn Invitational.
