MEMPHIS, Tenn. – RedHawk junior Alix Thurman led the way for Miami on Day 3 of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional. Thurman won both of her back draw singles matches on Sunday and will be the only Miami player still competing on Monday.

Thurman won 6-3, 6-0 over Eastern Kentucky University’ Milena Poffo and then came out victorious in a lengthy 6-4, 5-6(4-7), 6-5(7-3). Thurman will face Ball State’s Kristel Sanders at 8 a.m. on Monday morning.

In main draw singles action, senior Christiana Raymond defeated the 6th seed, Liza Tymchenko of Memphis, 7-6(7-4), 6-4. Raymond dropped her next match 4-6, 5-7 in the round of 16 to University of Kentucky’s Aldila Sutjiadi, the 12th seed. RedHawk junior Christine Guerrazzi lost to third-seeded Georgina Sellyn of Vanderbilt by a score of 7-6(5-6), 2-6, 3-6 in the second round of the 64-player field.

Sophomore Chloe Heerden lost her backdraw singles match 2-6, 4-6 against Chatanooga’s Alexa Flynn while freshman Andreea Badileanu did not compete in her match due to an injury.

The USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional continues Monday morning.
