OXFORD, Ohio – For a third straight week, a Miami volleyball player earned tournament MVP honors while the men’s cross country team had the same top finisher as junior setter/outside hitter Meg Riley and senior runner Dave Wing are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of Sept. 9-15.

Riley (St. Louis, Mo.) returned to her hometown of St. Louis and led Miami to the tournament championship of the Billiken Challenge. She was named tournament MVP after recording double-doubles in every single match. She also had a double-double against Xavier on Tuesday, making her 4-for-4 on the week. Riley led the RedHawks with 55 kills in four matches, an average of 3.06 per set. She hit .292 from the outside. Also serving as a setter while in the back row in Miami’s 6-2 offense, she had 76 assists, an average of 4.22 per set. Riley scored on her block, contributing 11 total (1 solo, 10 assisted) in four matches. She had 11 kills and a .476 hitting percentage against Xavier. She followed it up with a season-high 19 kills in a come-from-behind win against host Saint Louis on Friday. Riley contributed 13 kills against Bradley and 12 to clinch the championship versus Youngstown State.

Riley has now earned Miami Female Athlete of the Week three times in her career, also claiming it twice as a sophomore last year, while this is her first such honor this season.

For the third straight week, Wing (Naperville, Ill.) was Miami’s top finisher as he placed 11th overall at the Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational Saturday, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He crossed in a personal-best 8K time of 24:17.21, topping his previous best 8K time by over 30 seconds despite running his first 8K of the season. Wing was running in a field of 78 runners, which included runners from No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 11 Eastern Kentucky, Louisville and the host Wildcats, among others. He helped Miami place fifth as a team, ahead of Mid-American Conference foe Akron and local rival Cincinnati.

Wing collected Miami Male Athlete of the Week honors for the third straight week this week, earning it each week so far this season. He has also been tabbed MAC Men’s Runner of the Week each of the first two weeks of the season.

Riley and the RedHawks volleyball team return to the court this weekend at the Wildcat Classic in Evanston, Ill. as Miami faces IUPUI and host Northwestern Friday before tangling with South Florida on Saturday.
