OXFORD, Ohio -- The top-seeded Miami tennis team opens play in the Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday when it faces No. 4 seed and host Ball State in the first semifinal. Play begins at 10 a.m. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center in Muncie.

Miami (11-12) captured its fifth straight MAC regular-season title this year with a 7-1 record in league play. Nimisha Mohan, a first-team all-league selection, leads the RedHawks with a 22 -11 record this year. She played No. 1 most of the season, posting a 6-5 overall record (5-2 MAC) at the position. Alix Thurman was 21-12 overall enroute to second-team All-MAC honors. She fills the No. 2 spot Miami.

Christiana Raymond was the RedHawks' third 20-match winner this season. She finished 20-13 overall and was the only player on the team who went undefeated in league play.

Ball State improved to 15-10 with a 4-3 quarterfinal win over fifth-seeded Western Michigan on Friday. The Cardinals were down 3-2 before winning the final two matches to advance. In the deciding action, BSU's Kristel Sanders fought off seven match points to rally.

The Cardinals are the only team to earn a regular-season victory over Miami since 2008, topping the RedHawks 4-3 in Hamilton in the 2013 conference opener March 23.

The second semifinal features No. 3 Akron, who defeated Buffalo 4-1 on Friday, against No. 2 Bowling Green. The championship match is Sunday at noon.
