Oxford, Ohio – Securing themselves at least a share of the Mid-American Conference regular season title, the Miami University women’s tennis team swept Western Michigan, 7-0 on Friday afternoon. If the RedHawks win their match tomorrow they will clinch the program’s sixth straight MAC regular season title.

“I thought we competed very well today,” said head coach Anca Dumitrescu. “Particularly in doubles, I thought it was one of the better doubles matches we have played all year. It was nice to see that. Also in singles I thought we competed well and played the important points well. For us, it’s just continuing to go out there with a positive attitude, fight for every point and know that nothing comes easy. We have a great opportunity tomorrow.”

Miami (14-6, 6-1 MAC) was able to pick up two of the three doubles matches to win the doubles point. Senior Nimisha Mohan and freshman Andreea Badileanu won at No. 1, 8-4. Playing at No. 2 doubles, juniors Christine Guerrazzi and Alix Thurman downed their opponents, 8-5. With the match point secured, the No. 3 doubles match was not completed.

On the singles court, Miami picked up two points quickly when sophomore Ana Rajkovic defeated her No. 6 opponent, 6-3, 6-0 and Guerrazzi won at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1. Thurman clinched the match with her 6-2, 6-4 victory while playing at No. 4 singles. The next RedHawk finisher was Badileanu who handed in a 6-3, 6-3 effort. Raymond delivered a win at No. 3 singles next, 2-6, 6-3, 10-4. Finally, Mohan defeated her opponent, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 singles and completed the RedHawk sweep.

Saturday’s 1 p.m. match against Bowling Green, the last regular season home tilt of the season for Miami will serve as Senior Day for the RedHawks. Seniors Nimisha Mohan and Christiana Raymond will both be honored on the court prior to the start of the match.
