SUGAR GROVE, Ill. – Miami University’s golf team tees off its season Friday when the RedHawks participate in the Northern Intercollegiate Tournament. Head coach Zac Zedrick returns for his third season at Miami, ready to bring his determined team to Sugar Grove, Ill. where they will compete in a three-day tournament, playing a round of 18 holes each day.

"Between the golf course, Rich Harvest Farms, and the strength of the field, I can't think of a better way to get our season started,” said Zedrick.

This weekend’s tournament is hosted by Northern Illinois at Harvest Farms Golf course. The defending team champion is Indiana (888, +36), and the defending individual champion is Denny McCarthy from Virginia (216, +3).

Competing this weekend for the RedHawks will be freshman Greg Conrad, sophomores Jack Sparling and Daniel Schwarz, junior Scott Cahill and senior Mark MacDonald. Participating in the tournament alongside Miami will be fellow MAC schools Ball State and Northern Illinois. Also competing will be Central Florida, Houston, Indiana, Kentucky, Liberty, Louisville, North Texas, Ohio State, San Diego, St. Mary’s, UT Arlington and Virginia.

“We have a good mix of veteran leadership and some younger players eager to compete this week,” said Zedrick. “I'm excited about what I've seen so far and am looking forward to getting our season rolling."
