IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Miami University golf team continues its tour of the Big Ten when it participates in the Hawkeye Invitational this weekend. The RedHawks will play 36 holes on Saturday and finish the tournament with one final round of 18 holes on Sunday. The event takes place at the Finkbine Golf Course on the campus of the University of Iowa. The par-72 course measures 7,239 yards.
Miami is coming off back-to-back fourth place finishes at the FAU Spring Break Classic and the Hoosier Invitational. Junior Austin Kelly has led the ‘Hawks in both events, tying for 11th down in Florida and tying for fourth at Indiana, only two shots behind the eventual winner.
"We've gotten this four-week stretch of tournaments off to a solid start at FAU and Indiana,” said Miami head coach Zac Zedrick. “This week is the start of two challenging and highly promising opportunities for us. Iowa hosts a fantastic event every year. Finkbine is always in great shape and is a great test for any good player. The field is also very good, so it will be another excellent indicator of how we're progressing this spring."
Representing the RedHawks this week will be Kelly, senior Brett Tomfohrde, redshirt junior Mark MacDonald and sophomores Luke Shaughnessy and Scott Cahill. There are 12 teams in the field, including six Big Ten squads in Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin. Also participating are Charlotte, Iowa State, Kansas, Notre Dame and Washington State.
