PINEHURST, N.C. - The Miami University men's golf team resumes its spring schedule when it participates in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate, Sunday through Tuesday. The RedHawks will play one 18-hole round per day during the event.
The tournament takes place at the historic Pinehurst Resort. Rounds one and three of the event will be contested on Pinehurst No. 6, while the second round will take place on Pinehurst No. 2, site of the 2014 US Open and US Women's Open.
"Everyone's been itching to get outside for more than a couple of days, so we've been looking forward to Pinehurst since we got back from Florida," said head coach Zac Zedrick. "We had a really competitive qualifier and everyone's been doing a good job of respecting each day as an opportunity to get better. There are some good teams in the field and the golf courses we're competing on will definitely let us know where we're at right now."
Miami is taking eight golfers down to North Carolina to compete. Representing the RedHawks in the tournament will be senior Brett Tomfohrde, redshirt junior Mark MacDonald, junior Austin Kelly and sophomores Scott Cahill and Luke Shaughnessy. Competing as individuals at the event will be sophomore Brantley Kushner and freshmen Daniel Schwarz and Jack Sparling.
Mid-American Conference rivals Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Ohio and Toledo join Miami as part of the 16-team field. Also competing at Pinehurst are Belmont, Campbell, Eastern Kentucky, Marshall, Old Dominion, North Carolina-Greensboro, Richmond, Villanova, VCU, Winthrop and Xavier.
