WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Sophomore Alix Thurman upset 14th-seeded Daniela Vidal of Purdue 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, highlighing Friday's action at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship. Sophomore Christine Guerrazzi and junior Nimisha Mohan also posted victories to advance to Saturday's round of 32.

Guerrazzi knocked off Caroline Hedrick of Butler 6-2, 6-3, while Mohan topped East Tennessee State's Lyn Yee Choo 7-6 (7-3), 6-2. Christiana Raymond, the other RedHawk in the main draw, fell short in her opening match, 6-4, 7-5 against Rebecca Shine of Louisville.

All three doubles teams were eliminated on Friday. Mohan and Thurman posted an 8-6 victory over Liza Tymechenko and Skylar Kuykendall of Memphis in the morning before falling to East Tennessee's Choo and Anna Gerbassi.

Guerrazzi and Raymond opened play with a loss to opponents from Butler, but won their consolation round match later in the morning. Ramona Costea and Ana Rajkovic dropped a pair of matches to conclude their play in the tournament.

Action continues on Saturday with the consolation quarterfinals of doubles in the morning and round of 32 singles play in the afternoon.
