SUNBURY, Ohio - With only a week before another school year begins, the members of the 2012-13 Miami University men's golf team continue to have success in the summer tournaments they are participating it. The latest was junior Mark MacDonald, who won the Columbus District Golf Association Amateur Championship on July 26.
The tournament began at the Rattlesnake Ridge Golf Club with one round of stroke play to cut the field from 55 players to 32 for match play. MacDonald shot a two-over par round of 74 to tie for eighth overall and easily qualify for the five round match play tournament.
After winning his first round match, 3 and 1, MacDonald had to work overtime in each of his next two contests. It took two extra holes to win his second round match over Austin Scott, and he defeated Nicholas Montes on the first extra hole to advance to semifinals. MacDonald then took the title with a 4 and 3 win over Ken Kinkopf in the semis and a 4 and 2 victory over Nate Yankovich in the championship match.
MacDonald and the rest of the 2012-13 RedHawks will begin their season at the Marshall Invitational Sept. 10-11.
