OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University head men's golf coach Zac Zedrick announced the team's 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday. The schedule features five tournaments in the fall and seven in the spring, concluding with the annual Mid-American Conference Championship, May 3-5, 2013, in Nashport, Ohio.
"I'm really excited about this year's schedule," said Zedrick. "Our fall features stops at some of the best golf courses in the country and we'll be seeing a good mix of schools from the Midwest and East Coast."
The fall schedule begins with three regional tournaments in September. The RedHawks will participate in the Marshall Intercollegiate in Huntington, W.Va. (Sept. 10-11), and follow it up with the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind., (Sept. 15-16). They will then travel to Illinois State for the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, (Sept. 22-23).
After participating in the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio (Oct. 8-9), Miami will travel to Beallsville, Md. to conclude fall play at the Georgetown Intercollegiate (Oct. 22-23).
For the second consecutive year, the Red and White will begin the spring portion of the schedule taking on their fellow MAC schools in the Mid-American Match Play event (Feb. 11-12). They will then head south for the Pinehurst Intercollegiate (Mar. 10-12) and the FAU Spring Break Classic (Mar. 29-31).
"We'll get to see some very good teams from the South early on during the spring," said Zedrick. "There aren't too many places better than Pinehurst to spend spring break."
Miami will return to the Midwest to complete its schedule with three Big Ten Tournaments. First is the Hoosier Invitational (Apr. 6-7) hosted by Indiana. That will be followed by the Hawkeye Invitational (Apr. 13-14), hosted by Iowa. The RedHawks will then finish the run at the Boilermaker Invitational (Apr.20-21), hosted by Purdue. It all leads to the MAC Championship (May 3-5), which will take place at the Longaberger Golf Club and is hosted by Ohio. The winner of the MAC Championship earns an automatic berth into an NCAA Regional Tournament.
Miami returns all seven letterwinners from last season's team. The RedHawks welcome four talented freshmen as part of their 2012-13 squad.
