IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Miami University men’s golf team is in 11th place after two rounds at the Hawkeye Invitational on Saturday. The RedHawks are currently at 21-over par after shooting a 294 in the morning and a 303 in the afternoon round. The host of the tournament, 27th-ranked Iowa leads the event at 20-under par.
“Today was certainly disappointing, to say the least," said head coach Zac Zedrick. "We got off to a very good start, but gave some shots back toward the end of the first round and it seemed to carry right into the second round. Too much focus on everything but the moment in front of us and it showed this afternoon.”
Ben Peacock had the best day among Miami golfers. His two-under par 70 in the first round was the low round for the RedHawks on Saturday. After shooting a 75 in the afternoon, Peacock is currently tied for 20th at one-over par.
Brett Tomfohrde is next on the leaderboard for Miami. He shot rounds of 72 and 76 and is tied for 37th at four-over par. Luke Shaughnessy is right behind him after rounds of 76 and 73 put him a tie for 43rd at five-over par. Mark MacDonald is 56th at 11-over par, while Scott Cahill is tied for 57th at 12-over par.
The Hawkeye Invitational concludes with one final round of 18 holes on Sunday.
"Tomorrow’s a new day and we can’t change what’s already happened," said Zedrick. "I’m confident we’ll come out, compete, and finish this weekend the right way.”
