LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The Miami University men’s golf team completes its Florida trip when it participates in the FAU Spring Break Classic this weekend. The RedHawks will play one 18-hole round each day, Friday through Sunday.
Miami is coming off a ninth place finish at the Rio Pinar Invitational. The RedHawks used a strong third round performance to move up four spots on the final day. Ben Peacock had a career-best tournament, finishing in a tie for fourth place at six-under par. He was named Mid-American Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week on Wednesday.
"Given how we finished up at Rio Pinar, I'm actually excited about the quick turnaround between tournaments,” said head coach Zac Zedrick. “I think the boys learned some valuable lessons about poise on Monday and it showed the following day. Having the opportunity to immediately build off of our successful final round is a good thing, in my opinion."
The lineup for Miami remains the same at this tournament, as the Red and White will be represented by juniors Peacock and Brett Tomfohrde, sophomores Austin Kelly and Mark MacDonald, as well as freshman Luke Shaughnessy. They will face a very strong field that includes MAC rival Northern Illinois, as well as host FAU, Connecticut, DePaul, Florida Gulf Coast, Florida State, Jacksonville State, Marshall, Michigan State, Minnesota, Murray State, Ohio State, South Florida and Xavier.
"We just need to focus on coming out of the gate relaxed and free-wheeling it this weekend,” said Zedrick. “We were a little tight the first day at Rio Pinar and it showed. Coming out and competing with a sense of belonging is something the boys want to make a point of doing each and every round."
