LAKE WORTH, Fla. - The Miami University men's golf team finished the FAU Spring Break Classic in 13th place after shooting a 12-over par 296 in the final round on Sunday. The RedHawks finished the tournament at 29-over par overall. Florida State, which is ranked 22nd in the nation, won the event by 19 strokes at 22-under par.

Freshman Luke Shaughnessy was the star for Miami on Sunday. He shot a four-under par 67. That was the lowest round by any RedHawk golfer this season. He finished the tournament tied for 59th individually at 11-over par.

"Today was disappointing, as we had one of the best rounds of the tournament come from Luke, but couldn't put three good scores behind it," said head coach Zac Zedrick. "The wind came up and it was a great opportunity to bear down and make a little bit of a move, but we didn't get it done."

Junior Brett Tomfohrde was Miami's top finisher at the tournament overall. He tied for 30th at five-over par. Ben Peacock was right behind him at seven-over par and in a tie for 40th.

Other RedHawk finishers included Austin Kelly, who tied for 63rd at 12-over par and Mark MacDonald, who tied for 69th at 15-over par.

"We have a week at home to continue to work and try to get a little better each day," said Zedrick. "Ultimately, our performance this week is on me as the head coach, so I have to continue to try and find ways for the boys to perform up to the standards we've set for ourselves."

Miami will return to action Apr. 7-8 when it participates in The Rutherford in University Park, Pa.
