WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Miami University men’s golf team has its final tournament before the Mid-American Conference Championship when it participates in the Boilermaker Invitational this weekend. The RedHawks will play 36 holes on Saturday, and complete the event with one final round of 18 holes on Sunday.
The 2012 Boilermaker Invitational will take place on the Kampen Golf Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex on the campus of Purdue University. The long course is 7,465 yards long, a par-72.
“I’m honestly really excited for this weekend,” said head coach Zac Zedrick. “Kampen is a really demanding golf course and the field is excellent. There isn’t a better final regular season tournament to prepare us for Rich Harvest Farms and the MAC Championship.”
Representing Miami this week will be juniors Ben Peacock and Brett Tomfohrde, sophomore Mark MacDonald and freshmen Scott Cahill and Luke Shaughnessy. They will face a 15-team field that will feature six of their MAC rivals in Akron, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Northern Illinois and Toledo. In addition to those teams and the host Boilermakers, rounding out the field will be Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, IUPUI, Michigan State, TCU and Wichita State.
“The boys left Iowa City with a bad taste in their mouths and they’re looking to make it right with how they compete this week,” said Zedrick. “The three days we’ve been home have been great and we’ll be ready when the bell sounds on Saturday.”
