BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - After a week off, the Miami University softball team returns to action when it travels to Bowling Green, Ky. for the Hilltopper Spring Fling this weekend. On Friday, the RedHawks take on Canisius at 12:30 p.m. (EST) and Belmont at 3 p.m. (EST). On Saturday, Miami faces host Western Kentucky at 1:30 p.m. (EST). The tournament concludes on Sunday when the ‘Hawks take on Bradley at 1:30 p.m. (EST).

MYERS STARTS OUT STRONG: Senior pitcher Paige Myers was on her game in leading the RedHawks to a pair of victories at the Music City Classic two weeks ago. She won both games she started, and also held Virginia Tech scoreless in 1.2 innings worth of relief. For the week she was 2-0 with a 0.66 ERA and had 13 strikeouts in 10.2 innings pitched. In her career, Myers has appeared in 79 games, making 47 starts. She is 20-24 with a 3.42 ERA in 272.1 innings pitched. She has seven career shutouts (three solo, four assisted) and has struck out 215 batters.


ABOUT CANISIUS: The Golden Griffins are 2-2 on the season, having split their four games at the Cleveland State Viking Indoor Tournament two weeks ago. Their game against Miami will be their first outdoor game of the year. Canisius is coming off a 22-25 season, with a 6-10 record in the MAAC. Its top returning hitter is junior infielder Robin Kennery. Last season, she hit .350 with three home runs and 39 RBI. Its top returning pitcher is senior Jen Consaul. She was 15-12 with a 2.36 ERA in 33 appearances (24 starts) in 2013.

SERIES WITH CANISIUS: Canisius has won both meetings all-time with Miami. The teams last met on March 20, 2010 in Oxford as part of the Miami Invitational. The Golden Griffins came away with a 3-2 victory in that contest.

ABOUT WESTERN KENTUCKY: Western Kentucky is 5-4-1 on the season. The Hilltoppers are coming off a 2-3 performance at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament in Los Angeles last weekend. They defeated Robert Morris and UC Davis, but also dropped games to both of those schools, along with 12th-ranked UCLA. WKU is coming off a Sun Belt title and an NCAA appearance last season. Its top hitter has been senior infielder Olivia Watkins. She is batting .545 with two RBI in 10 games. Its top pitcher has been senior Emily Rousseau. She is 3-4 with a 2.76 ERA in eight appearances (seven starts).

SERIES WITH WESTERN KENTUCKY: Miami holds a 3-1 record all-time against WKU. The teams last met on Feb. 19, 2005 at the Sonic Challenge in Chattanooga, Tenn. The RedHawks shutout the Hilltoppers, 2-0, in that contest.

ABOUT BELMONT: Belmont is 3-5 on the season. The Bruins went 1-3 last weekend at the Samford Tournament, falling to the host Bulldogs, Evansville and Eastern Kentucky, before rebounding to defeat Samford 18-8 in the rematch on Sunday. Belmont has been led by junior second baseman Kirbie Ferrell. She is hitting .429 with five RBI in eight games. Its top pitcher has been senior Brittanie Albright. She is 1-2 with a 2.69 ERA in three appearances (all starts).

SERIES WITH BELMONT: Miami and Belmont have only met twice all-time with each team winning once. Their last meeting came on Feb. 26, 2006 at the Panera Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Bruins came away with a wild, 11-10, victory in that game. Miami had 12 hits in the contest, but committed five errors.

ABOUT BRADLEY: Bradley is 2-8 on the season. The Braves went 2-3 at the Stanford Nike Invitational last weekend. They won a pair of games against Pacific, but fell twice to 14th-ranked Stanford and once to Cal Poly. Bradley has been led offensively by junior infielder Shannon King. She is hitting .348 with four RBI. Its top pitcher has been senior Made Lynch-Crumrine. She is 1-4 with a 3.54 ERA in seven appearances (four starts).

SERIES WITH BRADLEY: Miami holds a 2-1 lead in the all-time series with Bradley. The teams last met on Feb. 22, 2004 in the Sonic Challenge in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Braves came away with a 5-1 win in that contest.

UP NEXT FOR MIAMI: The RedHawks head to Southern Illinois next weekend for the Coach B Classic. On Saturday, March 1, Miami takes on Murray State at 11 a.m. (EST) and host Southern Illinois at 3 p.m. (EST). On Sunday, March 2, the RedHawks face Western Illinois at 10 a.m. (EST) and Kansas at 2 p.m. (EST).
