MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Miami University tennis team finished play in the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional today on the heels of a back draw finals win from junior Alix Thurman. Thurman won both of her matches Monday morning en route to the back draw title.

“Today was a good day for the RedHawks with Alix Thurman winning the back draw,” said Associate Head Coach Ricardo Rosas. “It was a great achievement. Overall it was a good tournament for us. We learned a lot about mental toughness and what we need to do to beat the best players in the country.”

Thurman started the morning off with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Kristel Sanders of Ball State University. A walk-over by Daniella Patton of Xavier secured Thurman the spot in the final. Thurman defeated Middle Tennessee State University's Nayara Moraes by a score of 6-2, 6-2 in the final.

“It was a great feeling to win the back draw,” said Thurman. “After a tough first day with a few losses, I bounced right back. I wanted to leave the tournament feeling like I left everything there, and I definitely did that. Every match was a battle and I had to fight just as hard for every match. I am happy with the way that I competed and that I kept a positive attitude after a tough loss the first day.”

Miami returns to Memphis, Tenn. in two weeks for the Memphis Invitational. That weekend tournament from Nov. 1-3 will conclude the fall portion of the team’s 2013-14 schedule.
