CLEVELAND - The Mid-American Conference announced its 2013 postseason softball awards on Tuesday. Junior catcher Kayla Ledbetter (Gahanna, Ohio), freshman pitcher Jenna Modic (Poland, Ohio) and freshman utility player Hailey Reed (New Palestine, Ind.) were each named First-Team All-MAC. Modic and Reed were joined by outfielder Taylor Shuey (Fishers, Ind.) on the All-MAC Freshman Team.

This is the second All-MAC honor for Ledbetter after she was selected to the second team in 2012. In league games in 2013, Ledbetter led Miami with a .370 batting average. She also hit two doubles, two triples and four home runs for a slugging percentage of .704. She had 14 RBI during MAC play and earned nine walks. Behind the plate, Ledbetter threw out eight of the 22 runners that attempted to steal on her, and picked off two. She had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 98 chances.

Modic has been a force both in the circle and behind the plate during MAC play. She is 5-3 with a 3.93 ERA in 15 appearances (12 starts). She is second on the RedHawks with 49.2 innings pitched and has struck out 24 batters. Modic is second on the team with a .354 batting average with one home run and 12 RBI. She has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 26 chances.

Reed earned her spot as the true definition of a utility player, having played at first, second and third base during the MAC season. Despite all the shuffling, she has a .980 fielding percentage, having made only two errors in 100 chances. At the plate, Reed is batting .328 with two home runs and 13 RBI. She has an on-base percentage of .414 and a slugging percentage of .492.

Shuey hit .346 in her debut season with four RBI, while starting all 22 games in the outfield. She served as the team’s leadoff hitter, getting on base 36.9 percent of the time. She had a .968 fielding percentage, only making one error in 30 chances.

Miami finished MAC play at 12-10 (19-32 overall) and enters the MAC Tournament as the fifth seed. The RedHawks will begin the defense of the tournament championship when they take on eighth seed Toledo Wednesday at 11 a.m.
