STARKVILLE, Miss. - The National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced its 2012 Division I All-Region Team. Being selected to the First-Team All-Mideast Region was Miami senior pitcher Jessica Simpson. This is the first time she has earned First Team honors, after being selected to the Second Team last season.
Simpson leads the RedHawks with a 31-13 record and a 1.06 ERA. The 31 wins, along with her 346 strikeouts are both single-season school records, breaking the records she set last season. She won the MAC Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season, and was named the MAC Tournament MVP. At the MAC Tournament she passed the 100-win mark and recorded her 1,000th career strikeout. She is the all-time winningest pitcher in MAC history. Simpson, who is 101-58 with a 1.58 ERA and 1,009 strikeouts for her career, holds nearly every Miami pitching record.
Simpson is also highly ranked in several national statistics. Her 1.06 ERA ranks third in the country, while her 31 victories ranks fourth. Simpson's 346 strikeouts put her third in the nation, while her 12 shutouts ranks sixth.
Earning First Team status leaves Simpson eligible for All-America selection. The 2012 NFCA All-America Team will be announced on Wednesday, May 30.
Miami begins its NCAA Tournament run on Friday when it takes on host, no. 7 national seed and fifth-ranked Tennessee at 6 p.m.
