NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Two RedHawks earned second-place finishes Friday to lead the Miami University men’s track and field team on day one of the Black and Gold Invitational, which is the team’s season-opening meet and is hosted by the University of Vanderbilt at its track and field complex.

Senior Jarrod Eick (Hartville, Ohio) was the runner-up in the 1500m invitational run, clocking 3:51.01 as he was less than a second behind Loyola’s (Ill.) Sam Penzenstadler. In the 3000m invitational run, junior Daniel Garleb (Pickerington, Ohio) placed 11th in a personal-best 8:34.68.

Senior John Cantwell (Holland, Pa.) captured the other runner-up finish for the ‘Hawks in the triple jump with a leap of 14.31m/46-11.5, which ties his personal best set last year. In the shot put, junior Rob Stein (Villa Park, Ill.) took 11th with a heave of 15.54m/51-0. He also claimed 15th in the hammer throw with a toss of 52.23m/171-4.

The meet resumes Saturday at 11 a.m. ET with the discus while the track heats up at noon ET beginning with the 3000m run. The 4x400m relay concludes the meet at 6:30 p.m. ET. Live results for Saturday’s action can be found here.
