CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Miami University's record-setting swimmer Bekka Westrick, who finished first in all eight of the races she entered last week at the Miami Invitational, has been named as the Mid-American Conference's Swimmer of the Week.
The senior from Fairfield, Ohio was flawless at the Nixon Aquatic Center, leading the RedHawks to an overwhelming 1,338-point victory over runner-up Emory University.
Westrick also won Miami's Athlete of the Week honors this week.

The senior from Fairfield, Ohio had a record-setting weekend at the 2012 Miami Invitational (Nov. 29-Dec. 1), breaking three varsity records, three pool records and two meet records. On Thursday, she broke Miami's varsity record for the 200 freestyle on her leadoff leg (1:47.55) in the event-winning 800 freestyle relay. On Friday, in the individual 200 free, Westrick let loose with a first-place and varsity record time of 1:47.29. Later Friday evening, in her 50 free victory, she nearly broke the Miami and pool records with a time of 22.75. On Saturday, in her 100 butterfly triumph, Westrick's winning time of 52.91 set varsity, meet and pool records. She also won the 100 free event in 49.93, slightly slower than the pool record of 49.59. Westrick's blazing anchor leg in the 400 free relay led Miami to victory in 3:21.97, just a fraction of a second slower than the varsity record of 3:21.53.
MAC Men's Swimmer of the Week
Mike Dugan Buffalo

At the Zippy Invitational, won by the UB men by nearly 800 points, juniors Mike Dugan won two individual events and was part of four of UB's five winning relay squads. Dugan set the meet and pool record and earned an NCAA B cut with his win in the 50-yard freestyle in 20.16 and won the 100-yard butterfly by a hundredth of a second over teammate Cory Zorsch. In the relays, Dugan anchored the UB men to a win in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Matt Hogan, Zorsch, Ryan Smrekar and Dugan broke the meet and pool record set in last season's meet by the Bulls by one-hundredth of a second as the UB foursome finished in 1:22.45 to eclipse last season's winning mark of 1:22.46. Dugan also anchored the winning 400-yard medley relay (3:19.83) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:03.89). He swam the butterfly leg of the victorious 800-yard medley relay to a 6:50.57 finish.
