It's the sixth day here in Omaha and we're sorry we haven't written in a while. We've been getting back pretty late after watching some fast swimming at finals!! Maddie Kete got in yesterday just in time to see Leah Thornton compete in her 200 backstroke today. It's been pretty exciting watching all the top athletes in the country swimming!
Maddie Kete: I am SOOO excited to finally be in Omaha after hearing stories from all the other girls how awesome it is. I've been watching on TV all week but it really is nothing compared to actually being here. Not only is the pool AWESOME, but even the atmosphere and being around all the other fast swimmers pumps me up and makes me want to swim fast! I cannot wait to finally race tomorrow! For the 50, I need to focus on my own race and swim within my lane. I'm so grateful that my family is all here to cheer me on. I can't wait to swim...it will definitely be a swim to remember for the rest of my life! Thank you to everyone for all the support, it means so much!!!
Bekka Westrick: I'm so excited to finally swim my second event. It seems like it's been forever since I swam my first event. I'm glad to finally be re-united with Maddie and it's really pumped me up for the 50. I'm hoping to take my experience with the pressure and nerves from my first race and use it to help me in my second. For the 50, I'm hoping my start will help me get out there at first and my kick will bring it home. I just need to stay focused on my breathing pattern and finish hard into the wall. This is my favorite race so I'm very eager to swim tomorrow!
Maegan O'Connor: It's hard to believe we are entering the last days of the meet! Having Bekka and Maddie finish up their last races tomorrow will for sure be a blast to watch, as usual!! This past week has been filled with incredible swimming and amazing experiences that I will never be able to forget. I cannot put into words how unbelievable this trip has been and I feel so lucky to be here with my teammates. This meet has been so motivational and I am excited to carry our excitement through the rest of this summer season and into our senior year.
Leah Thornton: My race today, the 200 backstroke, did not go as well as I had hoped, but I plan on using my race as a learning experience. I have never swam at a meet this large or this fast in my entire life! Having this experience, regardless of my performance, has taught me so much about handling my nerves and high-pressure situations. On the other hand, I am so excited to watch Bekka and Maddie swim the 50 tomorrow! I just know that they are going to be great!
This has been one of the best experiences we've ever had!! We'd like to thank everyone who has ever supported us throughout our years. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we're so grateful to be here now.
