Greetings from Austin, Texas!! We got here Tuesday night and the weather has been amazing since we arrived! I've been wearing my flip flops and shorts, taking advantage of this as much as I can. Since I left, I have been overwhelmed with supportive text messages, phone calls, notes and Facebook posts from friends family and teammates! It has been truly special to see how many people are behind my swims!
Wednesday and Thursday were spent in the pool and around Austin getting used to the pool here. I was nervous at first about both of the walls being bulkheads but I got the hang of it. The hard part about bulkheads vs. walls is that while swimming you do not see the end of the pool without looking up, whereas if there was a wall you could see the corner of the bottom meeting the wall. I got my stroke count down and started hitting the walls perfectly by Thursday, just in time for my swim!
I felt smooth and strong in warmups for my 100 breast today and was very excited. When my race came I felt great in the water, but didn't take it out fast enough. While my stroke was there my speed just wasn't and my time put me 20th in the meet. This just proves that the meet, and the sport of swimming, is always getting faster and always changing!
Of course, I am upset not to make it back to finals, which was a goal of mine, but I did the best I could. I am really looking forward to my 200 tomorrow and I am going to refocus my energy there! I miss all my friends and teammates back at Miami and I wish you were here!!
Love and Honor, KV
