Returning to his alma mater in April 2009, former Miami soccer player Nate Lie (pronounced LEE) enters his fourth season as an assistant coach with the RedHawks in 2012, serving as the recruiting coordinator. In his first year on the sidelines in 2009, he helped lead Miami to the MAC Tournament championship game while guiding the RedHawks to a MAC East Division title in 2010.

"We are thrilled to have Nate Lie rejoining the Miami soccer family," head coach Bobby Kramig said upon Lie's hire. "When Nate played for the RedHawks he was always our coach on the field, and I am confident that he will do an excellent job."

Lie brought in a stellar freshman class in 2010, including Katy Dolesh, who tied for the team lead with eight goals in her first year and was second on the team with 21 points, and Kayla Zakrzewski, who notched a team-high-tying eight assists in her rookie season. Both were named to the All-MAC Freshman Team and Second-Team All-MAC in 2010 while both were again named All-MAC in 2011. In 2010, Miami's freshmen accounted for 40 percent of the team's points and 39 percent of the squad's goals. Lie's 2011 recruiting class also contributed right away, as freshmen totaled 19 points while six of them cracked the starting lineup.

While at Miami from 1996-2000, Lie was a two-time Academic All-MAC selection for the Miami men's soccer program, earning First-Team Academic All-MAC honors in 1998 in addition to Academic All-Ohio accolades that same season. In 1997, Lie earned Second-Team All-MAC honors.

Lie graduated from Miami in 2000 with degrees in economics and finance. He resides in Oxford with his wife, Emily, and their baby boy, Michael.
