BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Miami University volleyball team dropped a 0-3 (19-25, 23-25, 22-25) decision to Buffalo on Friday. The RedHawks are now 11-16 overall and 3-12 in the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls improve to 17-11 overall and 5-10 in the MAC.

Freshman setter Krista Brakauskas continued Miami’s storyline of having young contributors this season. She led the ‘Hawks with 17 assists and also had 10 digs for her 11th double-double of her rookie campaign.

Buffalo opened up a 12-4 lead to begin set one. Two kills from sophomore outside hitter Annie Reiswig, along with kills from freshman outside hitter Maris Below and sophomore middle hitter Jenny Ingle were part of a 9-2 run by Miami the cut the deficit to one at 13-14. Junior outside hitter/setter Meg Riley put down a pair of kills, but UB was able to push the lead back to four at 22-18. The RedHawks scored the next point, but the Bulls followed with three in a row to take a 25-19 victory.

Kills from Reiswig and Riley, along with two straight service aces by junior middle hitter Chelsea Visk helped stake Miami to a 5-1 lead in set two. The Bulls fought back with an 11-3 run to go in front, 12-8. Trailing 15-18, a kill by sophomore outside hitter Sarah Chaney started a 6-2 run that put the RedHawks back in the lead at 21-20. After Buffalo scored the next two points, the teams traded side outs until a kill from Ingle tied the score at 23. The Bulls answered with back-to-back kills to earn a hard-fought, 25-23, win.

Despite falling behind 1-5 in set three, Miami fought back to tie the score at 10. The key moment came with the score tied at 12, as the Bulls went on an 8-4 run to take control at 20-16. The ‘Hawks did not give up as a kill from Below, a Buffalo attack error and a kill by Riley pulled Miami to within one. The Bulls scored the next three to go in front 23-19. Senior libero Madison Hardy was able to put down a kill, but Buffalo was able to hang on for a 25-22 win.

Ingle and Below led the RedHawks with seven kills apiece, while Riley and Reiswig each had six. Hardy led Miami with 16 digs.

The RedHawks will conclude the 2013 season on Saturday when they travel Akron for a 5 p.m. match.
