CLEVELAND—Junior forward/midfielder Kelsey Dinges (Smithton, Ill./Althoff Catholic) was tabbed the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Dinges powered the Miami University women’s soccer team to a pair of shutout wins over the weekend, which catapulted the RedHawks into sole possession of first place in the MAC East Division standings. The RedHawks are now just one point out of first place in the overall MAC standings.
Dinges scored three of Miami’s four goals for the weekend as the RedHawks recorded a pair of 2-0 wins against Northern Illinois and Toledo. In Sunday’s win, she helped the RedHawks seize their ninth shutout and eighth shutout win of the season and extended MU’s unbeaten streak to seven straight games.
Transitioning in the last two weeks from midfielder to forward, Dinges doubled her season goal output over the weekend despite not having played at the position the first seven weeks of the season. She notched the insurance goal against the Huskies in the 65th minute on Friday, cashing in on her only shot on goal of the game. Dinges broke open a 0-0 tie on Sunday against the Rockets in the 61st minute with a long goal from 30 feet out. In the last second of the game, Dinges tacked on her second goal of the game, putting one past the Rocket goalkeeper at 89:59.
Dinges took eight shots on the weekend, placing four on goal, while tallying three goals for a total of six points.
This is the second MAC Offensive Player of the Week honor of Dinges’ career and her first MAC award this season. It is the second MAC Offensive Player of the Week honor for the RedHawks this season with senior midfielder Katy Dolesh earning the recognition on Sept. 16.
The RedHawks conclude a three-match home stretch on Friday, Oct. 25, hosting Central Michigan at 3 p.m. Miami then hits the road for matches at Bowling Green on Sunday, Oct. 27 and at Ball State on Thursday, Oct. 31 to round out the regular season.
