GREENSBORO, N.C. – After five members of the Miami University men’s track and field team competed Thursday to open the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, sophomore Tyler Yee was the lone RedHawk in action Friday at the East Prelims, held at North Carolina A&T State University’s Irwin Belk Track at Aggie Stadium.
Yee (Florida, N.Y.) finished 37th in the javelin with a heave of 59.69m/195-10, which he recorded on his third and final attempt. He improved on his seed by one place, as he entered the meet seeded 38th (out of 48) with his throw of 64.35m/211-1 from the Mid-American Conference Championships, which ranks him second in school history. He was fourth among the six MAC athletes in the javelin Friday and was 11th out of 16 in his flight (flight one). Florida State’s Morne Moolman posted the top throw of the prelims, firing the javelin 75.17m/246-7, while the top 12 finishers advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. in two weeks.
A pair of RedHawks will wrap up Miami’s action at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds on Saturday. Senior Jarrod Eick (Hartville, Ohio) posted the sixth-fastest time in the 1500m first round Thursday night to qualify for the 1500m quarterfinals Saturday at 6:45 p.m. He needs to finish in the top 12 (out of 24 runners) to advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene. The top five in each of the two 12-man heats automatically advances while the next two best times also make it in. The other RedHawk competing Saturday is freshman Peter Stefanski (Aurora, Ill.) in the high jump, which is set for 6 p.m. He needs to place in the top 12 as well (out of 48) to advance to the NCAA Championships.
