Miami Hockey Postgame Quotes
Miami vs. Ohio State
Saturday, March 2, 2013
Steve Cady Arena - Oxford, Ohio
Head Coach Enrico
Blasi
On winning the CCHA
regular-season championship:
"I've said it before that the regular-season championship is
a difficult one to win because you have to be good consistently for six months
and you have to win in different buildings and play on the road, long road
trips, and sometimes through some sickness and injuries. If you're fortunate
enough to be in a position to win one, it's pretty amazing. As far as this team
is concerned, I don't think anyone would have picked them to do anything. For
them to set themselves up at the beginning of the year to just go out and play
and have fun for each other, I'm so proud in the way they've conducted
themselves."
On the night as a
whole:
"Like I said, you want to put all the drama in one evening:
the last CCHA regular-season game against your rival for a CCHA championship
and it's Senior Night. And you had guys dropping the puck that started the
program. Why not, right? It's a good feeling right now, and we'll enjoy it for
the night, and tomorrow we'll start putting a plan together for whoever we play
next."
On winning the final
CCHA championship:
"I don't want to be sentimental at this point in the season because
there's still so much hockey to be played, but it's a big deal. We can say that
we won the last one. I'm sad that the CCHA's going away, but everyone had to
make a decision for the best interest of their programs, including Ohio State
and Miami. It just so happens that we have to put an end to it."
Senior forward Curtis
McKenzie
On winning the final CCHA
regular-season championship:
"That trophy's forever ours now."
On the team as a
whole:
"This team's unbelievable, the amount of trust we have in
each other. I haven't been on this fun of a team, and how hard everyone works
for each other night in and night out, practice in and practice out. It's been
a blast with 26 great guys on our team who are all leaders. It's a special,
special win."
Senior captain and
defenseman Steven Spinell
On what defined this
team:
"We call it "The Brotherhood," but this year more than any other we really
lived it."
On winning the CCHA
regular-season title:
"Of course it's a huge honor to win the league championship,
but we have bigger aspirations to come here."
Freshman forward Riley
Barber
On the team's
chemistry:
"That's why we play so hard for each other, because we love
each other so much. And it's kind of cliché to say that you love your brother,
but it really is true."
On leading the team in
scoring as a freshman:
"It's something you don't think about a lot. Whenever I can
put the team in a good spot to win games I'm happy. To be able to be a key contributor
to a great team like this is something pretty awesome and I'm glad I could do
it with these guys."
