OXFORD, Ohio - After holding its opening team meeting and filling out paperwork Tuesday, the Miami University women's soccer team officially began its 2013 season Wednesday, Aug. 7, with a pair of practices. The RedHawks held fitness testing Tuesday evening, but returned to the pitch Wednesday morning for their first practice of the year and had a Red vs. White intrasquad scrimmage Wednesday afternoon. A photo gallery of Wednesday's scrimmage is available here.
Miami is coming off one of its best seasons in program history, posting a school- and Mid-American Conference-record 20 wins, en route to a 20-3-1 record, including 10-0-1 in MAC play. The RedHawks captured both the MAC regular-season and tournament championships for just the second time in program history. By winning the MAC Tournament, Miami earned a berth in the 2012 NCAA Tournament and upset No. 20 Tennessee on the road in overtime to advance to the second round, before falling to No. 15 Duke. The 'Hawks return 10 starters and 14 letterwinners from last year's squad.
Miami opens the 2013 season with an exhibition game at Xavier Aug. 17 before kicking off the regular season Aug. 23 at Illinois State.
