Early look at Bowling Green

The Falcons battled back from a 10-0 halftime deficit to beat Akron, 24-10, last Saturday.

It was their second straight victory and third of the season. Bowling Green is now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the Mid-American Conference.

Like Miami, BG played a challenging non-conference schedule, which included games against Florida and Virginia Tech. The Falcons lost to the Gators, 27-14, in their season opener Sept. 1 and fell to the Hokies, 37-0, Sept. 22. Their only other loss was at Toledo, 27-15, Sept. 15. They defeated Idaho, 21-13, Sept. 8 and Rhode Island, 48-8, Sept. 29.

Junior quarterback Matt Schilz leads Bowling Green's passing attack, which ranks 65th in the FBS, averaging 228.3 yards per game. He has completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 1,251 yards with five touchdowns and five interceptions.

Wide receivers Shuan Joplin, Alex Bayer and Chris Gallon are Schilz's main targets. Joplin leads the team in receptions and yards with 24 for 353.

Sophomore running back Anthon Samuel leads the Falcons' 68th-ranked rushing attack. He has accounted for eight of the team's 16 touchdowns and has rushed for 494 yards on 84 carries, averaging 82.3 yards per game.

The defense ranks 33rd in the FBS in points allowed, giving up an average of 20.3 points per game.

Miami plays at Bowling Green Saturday, Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
