Beginning his second season with the RedHawk coaching staff in 2013 is Miami star Ron Carpenter. He continues to serve as the RedHawks’ co-special teams coordinator and cornerbacks coach.

In his first season in 2012, Carpenter saw Dayonne Nunley earn his second straight First-Team All-MAC honor. Nunley recorded 63 tackles and three interceptions in 2012 and returns for his senior season to anchor Carpenter’s defensive back unit in 2013.

Carpenter joined his alma mater following a 13-month stint as Indiana University’s quality control assistant for defense and special teams. He also assisted in coaching the Hoosier safeties and cornerbacks.

As an undergrad at Miami from 1989-92, Carpenter was a three-time first-team All-Mid-American Conference player and served as captain his senior season.

He played for four teams in the National Football League, including the Minnesota Vikings (1993), the Cincinnati Bengals (1993-94), the New York Jets (1995-96) and the St. Louis Rams (1998-99).

Carpenter also was an All-World League player for the Amsterdam Admirals and spent seasons with the New York City Hawks of the Arena Football League (1998), the Los Angeles Extreme of the XFL, and the Nashville Katz and Georgia Force of the Arena League. He owns a Super Bowl ring from the ‘99 Rams and an XFL Championship ring from the 2000 L.A. Extreme. Carpenter has coached for the NFL’s Tennessee Titans (scouting assistant, 2000), the AFL’s Georgia Force (defensive secondary, 2002) and Central State University (defensive backs and special teams coordinator, 2009-10).

In 2000 Carpenter was named to the Miami All-Millennium team by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Ron and his wife, Tamara, have two sons, Kamron (18) and Aidan (2).
