Quotation Marx

Midweek throughout the 2012-13 school year, I will showcase some of the best quotes from Miami University athletes, coaches, personnel and alumni. Listed below are a few comments from the past week. Enjoy!

Football

  • "It is just something we have to learn from. The offensive line did a great job today and really stepped up. Hats off to Ohio State. Today they were the better team." - Senior quarterback Zac Dysert on playing Ohio State.

  •  "We should have scored more and earlier, but unfortunately it just didn't happen." - Senior quarterback Zac Dysert on Miami's first quarter against Ohio State.

  • "To have guys up and ready to run in your two-deep already as freshmen is a huge advantage as you try to build a program really from the ground up as we are doing here." - Miami coach Don Treadwell on the team's freshmen players.

  • "The one thing I know about SIU, having coached in the I-AA, is they are a tremendous team with - much like us - a tremendous tradition. They have a national championship under their belt, they've be conference champions, and you just go through the history year after year there's a lot of established history in that program." - Miami coach Don Treadwell on playing Southern Illinois University Saturday at Yager Stadium.

Women's Soccer

  • "You could really sense the momentum change in the second half. That's what happens when we assert ourselves defensively on the field. The takeaway from this game is when we get in people's faces and defend like this; we can really get it going. Everything we do offensively comes first and foremost from playing good defense. It's the springboard for everything we do." - Miami coach Bobby Kramig said about the team's 2-1 overtime win against Belmont Sunday in Nashville, Tenn.

Men's Cross Country

  • "Jarrod (Eick) took over the race about halfway through. He took the lead and never looked back. If he had to, he could've run faster because he sort of walked away when he made his move. Steve (Kiplagat) started going with him and tagged along. They broke away and created a bit of a gap so I told them to relax and cruise it in." - Miami men's cross country coach Warren Mandrell on his runners' performances at the Flyer 5k Challenge in Kettering, Ohio on Saturday.

Volleyball

  • "If I stopped to think about it, which I don't, I'd probably feel really tired. As a coach, I love helping the core of the roster learn how to compete together and form a chemistry that can win. I think that is huge. The trust that they have to have and the commitment to each other and learning to develop that each year with a different group keeps me motivated every year." -Miami coach Carolyn Condit on winning her 500th match with the RedHawks.

Field Hockey

  • "We have now faced four top-25 level teams in the first two weekends of the season. While it has been a challenge, it has been an excellent process for us and this game shows that we are moving forward." - Miami coach Inako Puzo on the field hockey team's tough schedule.
