We are trying something new here at While we still will be posting interviews and photo galleries during football camp, we will also be attempting to have a physical presence at most practices, giving you the fan, an inside look into Miami football.

That presence will be coming from Dave Meyer, Assistant Athletic Director of Communications. You can follow him on Twitter (@DaveMeyerMU) for other observations throughout camp and the entire football season.

Below are his observations and notes from day one of practice.

· First thing I noticed as practice began was how much bigger and stronger the RedHawks looked. A few examples were guys like Wesley Scott (up 20 pounds), Sam Shisso (18 pounds), Bryson Albright (17 pounds), Rokeem Williams (15 pounds), Kent Kern (14 pounds), and Trevan Brown (13 pounds).

· Miami began the morning with some 11-on-11 competition. Quinten Rollins intercepted Andrew Hendrix on the first play - a throw to the sideline. Rollins, a four-year letter-winner with the Miami basketball team, is expected to battle for a starting role at defensive back. Rollins is also another player that is much bigger than last year. Rollins was listed at 178 pounds his senior season with the basketball team. At the start of football camp he weighed in at 203 pounds.

· The team featured brand new adidas practice jerseys. The offense wore white tops with red bottoms and the defense was in all red. Both sides of the ball wore white helmets with no logos on them.

· Several players changed numbers from last season. Dawan Scott will wear No. 5 in 2014 (wore No. 25 last season), David Frazier will wear No. 9 (wore No. 80 last season) Bert Birdsall will wear No. 28 (wore No. 36 last year) and Lo Wood will wear No. 23 (wore No. 3 in the spring).

· Was nice to see tight end Alex Welch (Notre Dame transfer) on the field after missing all of spring with an injury.

· It is hard not to notice Chris Hudson. The freshman wide receiver checks in at 6-foot-6 and 259 pounds.

· Coach Martin announced that Austin Gearing will miss the season due to injury. Brison Burris, who missed most of spring practice with an injury, is expected to be out for most of 2014.

· Defensive end J’Terius Brown is now listed as J’Terius Jones on the roster and game programs.

· David Frazier opened practice with a spectacular one-handed catch for roughly 30 yards. At the end of practice he got behind the defense for a 60-yard touchdown catch from Hendrix. Frazier was very strong all spring and looks to have improved even more this year.

· The team will begin practice No. 2 at 9:10 a.m. inside Yager Stadium.
