OXFORD, Ohio – Under sunny skies and ideal conditions, the Miami University football team took to the Yager Stadium turf Saturday morning for its annual Pigskin Preview scrimmage. Fans were treated to roughly an hour and a half worth of RedHawk football as part of day-long festivities around Yager Stadium.

After a light stretch, Miami held a situational scrimmage with no running clock that pitted the offense (white) against the defense (red). The RedHawk offense mustered four touchdowns, all coming on the ground, while Miami’s placekickers were a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and knocked in all four PATs.

Redshirt senior quarterback Austin Boucher started the scrimmage, leading Miami on an opening drive that resulted in a 38-yard field goal from sophomore placekicker Kaleb Patterson. Boucher finished the day 4-for-6 passing for 43 yards, while he also ran the ball five times for 20 yards. Patterson, meanwhile, knocked in all three of his field goal attempts, adding kicks from 33 yards and 35 yards on the day.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Drew Kummer led the ‘Hawks on their next scoring drive, which resulted in a 30-yard field goal from senior kicker Mason Krysinski, his only field goal of the scrimmage. Kummer went 2-for-2 for 30 yards on the drive, while he finished the day 2-for-3 through the air and added 22 rushing yards on just three carries, including a 14-yard touchdown run.

A total of four quarterbacks saw action on the day, with redshirt freshman Austin Gearing completing one pass for eight yards, but he ran for 17 yards on a trio of rushes, one of which was a six-yard touchdown scamper. Miami’s other rushing touchdowns came from redshirt freshman running back Spencer McInnis and classmate Kevin Johnson.

McInnis led RedHawk running backs with 28 rushing yards on six carries, 20 of which came on a 60-yard drive that resulted in his 1-yard score. Sophomore running back Jamire Westbrook added 27 yards on five rushes, while Johnson finished with four rushing yards on two carries.

Leading the wide receivers was junior Dawan Scott, who hauled in a 27-yard pass from Boucher for his only reception Saturday. Freshman wideout Austin Green snagged a 25-yard pass from Kummer for his only catch, while he also ran the ball twice for eight yards. Redshirt senior tight end Steve Marck was the only RedHawk to catch multiple passes, bringing in two for 14 yards.

Prior to the scrimmage, and during it, Miami Athletics held its annual Equipment Yard Sale. Following football’s scrimmage, fans were able to get autographs from the players while children played inside inflatables in the Kidzone. A cookout under the east stands of Yager then concluded the day’s events.

Miami’s opens the 2013 season in just 14 days when the RedHawks travel to Huntington, W. Va. for a showdown with rival Marshall on Saturday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for all of Miami’s home games, including the Sept. 21 “Battle for the Bell” home opener against Cincinnati, as both season tickets and single-game tickets can be purchased here or by calling 513-529-HAWK (4295).
