LOUISVILLE - The Miami University softball team ran into a hot-hitting Louisville team on Saturday as it fell, 9-1, in six innings at the Red and Black Tournament. The RedHawks fall to 2-11 on the season, while the 14th-ranked Cardinals improve to 18-3.
Louisville struck for three runs on two home runs off Miami starter Paige Myers in the bottom of the first. The Cardinals would make it 5-0 in the bottom of the third with another two-run homer off RedHawk reliever Megan Mattera.
In the top of the fourth, Kayla Ledbetter led off with a double. One batter later a Shanyn McIntyre groundout moved her over to third. Allie Larrabee would single up the middle to bring Ledbetter home and make it 5-1.
Louisville broke the game open with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. The Cardinals were able to invoke the eight-run rule and end the game after scoring one final run in the bottom of the sixth.
Larrabee finished 1-for-3 with one RBI. Ledbetter was 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Miami concludes play at the Red and Black Tournament with two games on Sunday. The RedHawks will take on Austin Peay at 9:30 a.m., followed by Illinois State at 11:45 a.m. Note these games are different than the originally scheduled times.
