MUNCIE, Ind. - Behind eight top-three finishes, the Miami University women's track and field team finished third Friday night at the Ball State Quadrangular, held at BSU's Field Sports Building, which served as a final tune-up for next weekend's Mid-American Conference Championships.

The RedHawks, who rested several of their top performers in preparation for the MAC meet, totaled 90 points Friday. All four teams competing were MAC schools as Western Michigan took first with 181.5 points while Northern Illinois was second (106) and the host Cardinals fourth (87.5).

In field action, sophomore Taylor Brown (Hilliard, Ohio) won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.58m/11-9 to grab nine points for the 'Hawks. It was also her first collegiate win. Freshman Jess Baker (Aurora, Ohio) placed third in the high jump, topping the bar at a personal-best 1.60m/5-3 to nab six points while sophomore Jasmine Watts (Carmel, Ind.) was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.37m/17-7.5 for another six points.

Redshirt senior Samantha Gable (Greenfield, Ind.) took runner-up in the weight throw with her personal-best heave of 17.20m/56-5.25, collecting seven points, while she already ranked third in school history in the event. Classmate Alexandra Roberts (Hilliard, Ohio) also earned runner-up, doing so in the shot put with a toss of 14.78m/48-6, which is the seventh-best throw in school history, all of which Roberts owns.

On the track, Miami nabbed two of the top three spots in the mile run to earn a combined 13 points as senior Monica Fischer (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior Erica Howes (Fairfax, Va.) placed second and third, respectively, in 5:04.63 and 5:05.04.

In the 800m run, sophomore Taylor Wickware (Geneva, Ill.) was the runner-up in 2:14.64 to nab seven points while freshman Megan Beaver (Brecksville, Ohio) took fifth in 2:18.34 for another four points.

Freshman Kala Allen (East Amherst, N.Y.) captured third in the 200m dash in 25.61 to gain six points while sophomore Charlotte Myers (Bexley, Ohio) claimed fourth in the 400m dash in 57.85 to pick up six more points.

Sophomore Gretchen Walter (Piqua, Ohio) earned a spot in the finals of the 60m dash with her clocking of 7.87 while placing fourth in the prelims, as she also finished fourth in the finals in 7.88. In the 60m hurdles, junior Xerina Hughey (Galloway, Ohio) qualified for the finals, clocking 9.17 to take seventh in prelims, while she crossed in eighth in the finals in 9.50.

Miami is back in action next weekend when the RedHawks head to Ypsilanti, Mich. for the 2013 MAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Eastern Michigan University Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23.
