OXFORD, Ohio -- There will be a youthful and musical excitement in the air on Saturday, Sept. 8, when Miami University's football team hosts Southern Illinois in the home opener at Yager Stadium.

It's Miami's annual Youth Day (ages five to 12 years old), an event when the University plays host to local teams and leagues within a 60-mile radius of Oxford. Thus far, commitments to attend include South Dearborn Pee Wee Football, the Hamilton Little Blue, Bruce Elementary, the West Chester Outlaws, Madison Youth Football, Talawanda Bantam, South Dearborn Jr. High, the Oxford Boy Scouts and SFL.

To begin the day, kids and their families are invited to experience the pre-game excitement at Tailgate Town, staged on the front lawn at Millett Hall. Youngsters can enjoy interactive games, face-painting and live music from numerous bands, beginning at 12 noon. There will be a wide array of food options available.

At the Cradle of Coaches Plaza, kids can view the statues of some of the greatest coaches of all-time, including Bo Schembechler and Ara Parseghian.

At 2 p.m. is the Division 1 college match-up between the host RedHawks and the SIU Salukis. Highlighted by the high-powered duo of record-setting quarterback Zac Dysert and unstoppable wide receiver Nick Harwell, pre-season magazines are predicting that Miami will be among 2012's most improved teams. Lineman Austin Brown and cornerback Dayonne Nunley headline the RedHawk defensive unit.

Kids will be invited on the field with RedHawk cheerleaders, Shakerettes and dance team members to form a fan tunnel for Miami as it comes on the field. Selected youngsters will join players on the field for the official coin toss.

At halftime, more than a dozen high school marching bands will join Miami's band for a Band Day extravaganza.

Here's how it works:

1) Sign up to participate by contacting Miami's Athletic Marketing Department at (513) 529-1611.

2) Buy tickets at a special league price of $10 each or $12 each, which includes a hot dog and drink voucher.
