2012: Started every game for Miami, one of only five players to do so ... ended up with 65 tackles and 5 TFL ... tied for the team lead  for the RedHawks with three interceptions ... had six tackles including one for a two yard loss in the victory over Ohio he also broke up one pass ... reigstered eight tackles in Miami's losing effort to Bowling Green ... had six tackles against both Cincinnati and Akron ...  ... totaled six tackles with one TFL for minus three yards in game against Massachusetts ... recorded three tackles at Boise State to go along with an interception and a fumble recovery ...  he picked off two passes vs. SIU, the first for a 24-yd TD and the second he returned 25 yards ... also recorded 11 tackles and broke up 2 passes vs. the Salukis ... he's one of only 22 FBS players with two or more interceptions in 2012 ... Miami's honorary captain vs. Boise State ... in his first start as a linebacker 2 weeks ago vs. Ohio State, Hinkel tied for the lead with seven individual tackles ... moved by RedHawk coaches from safety to Will linebacker to take advantage of his speed.

SCOUTING REPORT: Projected as an all-star candidate by pre-season magazines,  he’s Miami’s starter at the Will linebacker, moving to that spot from safety last spring ... he brings a very strong game awareness to the field ... a confident player who tackles well and covers a lot of ground.

2011: Started all 12 games as a safety for Miami, extending his consecutive streak to 26 ... had 70 total tackles, fourth best for the RedHawks ... recorded 1.5 tackles for a loss and one interception ... had 11 total tackles against Toledo (Oct. 22) ... among 120 Division I teams nationwide, he helped RedHawks rank 22nd in tackles for loss, 24th in passing defense, 36th in first down defense and 39th in scoring defense.

2010: Ranked third among RedHawk defenders with 72 tackles (43 solos, 29 assists) ... also posted three interceptions for 11 yards, three tackles for loss, seven pass deflections and one fumble recovery ... he recorded eight tackles each against Ohio and Northern Illinois ... his three picks came vs. Eastern Michigan, Missouri and Middle Tennessee State ... a starter in all 14 games.

2009: Played in nine games, earning a starting assignment against Bowling Green ... accumulated 16 tackles and one tackle for loss ... he forced and recovered a fumble against BG.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played for Team USA following his senior season with the squad winning the Junior World Championship ... his St. Ignatius Wildcats won the 2008 state championship with a 14-1 record ... he recorded seven interceptions, earned all-district and second-team all-state honors ... earned 10 varsity letters in football (3), basketball (3) and track and field (4), serving as captain for football and hoops squads.
