HAMILTON, Ohio – Coming off a 7-0 loss against Indiana, the Miami University women’s tennis team bounced back with a clean 7-0 sweep of IUPUI Sunday inside the Riverside Athletic Club. Miami won all three doubles matches and none of their six singles victories were forced to a third set.
“I thought we did a good job today taking care of business in singles and doubles,” said head coach Anca Dumitrescu. “I am looking forward to next weekend and to see how well we will compete and how mentally tough we can be against two challenging opponents.”
In doubles action, the RedHawks started the day out strong by capturing all three victories. At No. 1 doubles, junior Christine Guerrazzi and senior Nimisha Mohan defeated their opponents, 8-5. Sophomore Ana Rajkovic and freshman Andreea Badileanu won at No. 2 doubles by a score of 8-1. Junior Ramona Costea and senior Christiana Raymond won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles action, the RedHawks looked strong from top to bottom. At No. 4 singles, Guerrazzi turned in the first singles victory with a smooth 6-0, 6-0 showing. The next Miami finisher was Rajkovic at No. 6 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0. Mohan clinched the victory for the RedHawks by finishing next with a solid 6-0, 6-3 victory. Raymond won her No. 1 singles match 6-3, 6-0 while Badileanu turned in a 6-0, 6-4 effort at No. 2 singles. Finally, Costea defeated her No. 5 singles opponent by a score of 6-3, 6-0 to complete the sweep for Miami.
Miami returns to action next weekend when the team heads down South for a pair of matches on Friday and Saturday. The RedHawks visit North Texas at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 and then travel to SMU for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, Feb. 16. Miami returns home on Sunday, March 2 to face Marshall at the Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton.
