OXFORD, Ohio – Coming off a third Central Collegiate Hockey Association title in the last four years and entering a new era of Miami Hockey this coming year with the inaugural season of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC), Miami Athletics has announced it will be implementing a new donor based seating model in Steve Cady Arena, effective for the 2014-15 season. The 2013-14 hockey season seating plan will remain the same as it has been in the past.

The donor-based seating model is being put in place to provide significant new and ongoing resources to help enhance and elevate Miami Hockey and Miami Athletics. Along with rewarding loyal fans and donors, the donor based seating model provides significantly more resources for both the Miami Ice Hockey team and all of Miami’s 500-plus student-athletes.

Many universities have implemented similar programs, including most of the members of the new hockey conference. With more than 400 season ticket holders and a waitlist of more than 600, the Miami model exemplifies a transparent and equitable system that:

  • Establishes criteria for determining access to Miami Ice Hockey tickets
  • Recognizes current season ticket holders for their loyalty by providing them with the first opportunity to retain their season tickets and current seat locations
  • Rewards loyal fans, as determined by the Red & White Club Loyalty Points Program, with the highest quality seating and ticket opportunities
  • Recognizes and rewards those who make a financial investment in Miami student- athletes and Miami University Athletics

In order to recognize season ticket holders for their loyal support of Miami Ice Hockey, all current season ticket holders will have an opportunity to retain their season tickets and current seat location.

New Model
The new donor based seating model will require an annual $125 donation to the Red & White Club for each season ticket purchased, along with the price of the actual season ticket(s). The total price for a season ticket (season ticket price and donation) is $435. Those fans that already donate annually to the Red & White Club at or above the required donation for the number of season tickets purchased do not need to make an additional donation on top of what they are currently giving to retain season tickets in Steve Cady Arena.  However, moving forward they will need to reallocate the required donation for ice hockey season tickets to the Red & White Club – Ice Hockey Seating Fund.

Loyalty Points and Reseating
In addition to the required annual per seat donation to the Red & White Club – Ice Hockey Seating Fund, Steve Cady Arena will be reseated using Red & White Club Loyalty Points. The Red & White Club Loyalty Points Program was established to ensure that Miami fans and supporters are properly acknowledged for their longstanding support of Miami University Athletics. The Loyalty Points Program rewards Miami fans for their financial support of Miami’s student-athletes and the athletic department as donors AND season ticket holders, as well as recognizing them for their Miami ties (graduate, faculty/staff, former student-athlete).

Current season ticket holders will be reseated based on Red & White Club Loyalty Point rank, with the highest ranked season ticket holder receiving the first opportunity to select their seats in Steve Cady Arena. Miami Athletics will be communicating every season ticket holder’s Loyalty Point total and ranking this fall. It is important to note that all current season ticket holders do have the option to bypass the reseating of Steve Cady Arena based on Loyalty Points ranking and retain their current seat location by paying a one-time flat fee of $500 to the Red & White Club – Ice Hockey Seating Fund between July 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.

Seat Transfer Option and Additional Reseating
Current season ticket holders also have a one-time transfer option that allows them to transfer season ticket(s) to another individual for a one-time per seat fee of $1,000. The one-time transfer option expires on June 19, 2013 and must be paid by that date. The transfer fee will also ensure that the individual receiving the ticket(s) will retain the current seat location and will not be reseated based on Loyalty Point rank unless they indicate otherwise.

Once all current season ticket holders have had the opportunity to renew, transfer or relinquish their season tickets for the 2014-15 season, Miami Athletics will take stock of how many season tickets are available. At that time, new season tickets will be awarded to fans with the most Red & White Club Loyalty Points in descending order, until all season tickets have been allocated. Loyalty Point rank and active membership in the Red & White Club will be the criteria used for awarding season tickets to individuals moving forward (into the 2014-15 season).

Wait List
If you would like to put your name on the wait list for Miami Ice Hockey season tickets, please contact the Miami University Athletic Ticket Office at (513) 529-4295. Please note that current season ticket holders can request to be on the wait list for additional seats.

Single-Game Tickets
As always, all fans are eligible to buy single-game tickets without any required donation once they go on sale. However, there will be an advance sale for single-game tickets for all active Red & White Club members as another benefit to our loyal members for supporting Miami’s student-athlete scholarships.

The new seating arrangement in Steve Cady Arena will be effective at least through the 2016-17 season. For those with questions on the new donor based seating model, please contact the Miami University Athletic Ticket Office or the Athletic Development Office at 513-529-4295 or 513-529-8097.

If I am already a Red & White Club member do I need to increase my giving for the 2014-2015 season?
That depends on current giving to the Red & White Club annually and how many hockey season tickets are purchased. For example:

  • If giving $100 to the Red & White Club annually and purchasing two hockey season tickets, an increase in giving by $150 to the required $250 Red & White Club level ($125 per seat) is required.

All required gifts for ice hockey season tickets should be designated to the Red & White Club – Ice Hockey Seating Fund. If you make a gift above and beyond the required amount for ice hockey season tickets, you should designate the additional gift above the required amount to the Red & White Club general fund or whatever other fund you choose to support.

Does my required donation count toward my Red & White Club membership level?
Yes! All required gifts for ice hockey season tickets also count toward Red & White Club membership level and qualify members for additional benefits. Those benefits may include invitations to special events, opportunity to purchase preferred parking, opportunity to purchase tickets for postseason tournaments (NCHC, MAC, NCAA, etc.) and opportunity to purchase tickets to select premium away games. Red & White Club Loyalty Points are only active if you are an active member of the Red & White Club. For more information on how to earn Loyalty Points, click here.
