COLUMBUS, Ohio – While most of the Miami University women’s track and field team has the weekend off, four RedHawks competed at the Jesse Owens Track Classic Friday evening at Ohio State University’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Redshirt senior Samantha Gable (Greenfield, Ind.) finished eighth in the discus with a personal-best throw of 45.47m/149-2, which moves her into seventh in school history. Freshman Amelia Strickler (Bay Village, Ohio) was not far behind in 10th with a toss of 43.97m/144-3, which is also a personal best, improving on her previous best by 10 feet. They were competing in a field of 33 throwers.

Miami’s lone track runner at the meet was sophomore Jess Hoover (Hilliard, Ohio), who placed 24th out of 54 runners in the 1500m run in 4:44.30, while running in her home town.

Miami’s throwers will compete in two events Saturday at the Jesse Owens Track Classic, taking part in the shot put at 10:30 a.m. and the hammer throw at 1:30 p.m. Live results will be available on
