OXFORD, Ohio - Miami Hockey fans were treated to an enjoyable evening Wednesday and got fired up for the 2012-13 season as the RedHawks held their third annual Face-Off Event at the Shriver Center. The event was co-sponsored by the Blue Line Club and the Red & White Club.

The event started with a social half hour for fans to mingle with coaches and players. After a brief talk from both Jeff Horlacher, president of the Blue Line Club, and Danielle Gaynor, assistant director of development, attendees helped themselves to a delicious buffet dinner. Fans had the opportunity to interact with the players during the night, as they were seated at various tables throughout the room.

A highlight video of the program's recent successes was shown after dinner to get the crowd excited for the upcoming season. The team then introduced themselves while senior captain Steven Spinell offered some insight on this year's team and answered some questions. Several of the freshmen also sang the fight song, as has become tradition. Head coach Enrico Blasi then addressed the crowd and answered some questions.

The evening culminated with guest speaker Patrick Burke, older brother of the late Brendan Burke, former Miami team manager, talking about his brother's experience at Miami and how he has carried on Brendan's mission through the You Can Play Project. After fans were treated to a touching speech from Burke, senior Curtis McKenzie and freshman Kevin Morris introduced the debut of Miami's own You Can Play video, which was then unveiled.

A silent auction was held during the event for a signed Alec Martinez Stanley Cup poster and a custom-made Hockey City Classic jersey. At the end of the night, several items, including Miami apparel and game tickets, were raffled off to those in attendance. Steve Baker, the Voice of the RedHawks, emceed the event.
