2013-2014:  Cavanaugh began his senior season with a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay against Xavier. He swam to a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle against Xavier as well. Against Cleveland State, Cavanaugh took second in the 200 butterfly, and the 100 butterfly. He took first in the 200 IM. He also took first in the 3x100 freestyle butterfly relay, fourth in the 3x100 breaststroke relay, first in the 3x50 medley relay, first in the 200 freestyle relay and second in the 400 medley relay against Ohio State. He contributed to a fifth-place finish in the 200 medley relay against Purdue, took third in the 200 butterfly and was second in the 100 butterfly. He also contributed to a wion in the 200 freestyle relay against the Boilermakers. At the Miami Invitational, Cavanaugh was fifth in the 200 freestyle relay, sixth in the 200 butterfly, 25th in the 50 freestyle, ninth in the 400 medley relay, tenth in the 100 butterfly, 11th in the 200 IM and eighth in the 400 freestyle relay. He took first in the 200 butterfly against Cincinnati and was third and fifth in the 100 breaststroke and 200 backstroke, respectively, against Evansville. Against Buffalo, Cavanaugh was third in the 200 medley relay and the 200 buttefly. He was fifth in the 100 freestyle and took first in the 200 IM against the Bulls. He also took second in the 200 medley relay against Eastern Michigan in addition to a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly and a second-place finish in the 200 IM. Cavanaugh was first in the 200 freestyle against Ball State. At the MAC Championships, the senior placed 14th in the 200 IM and 15th in the 200 butterfly. At the season's end, Cavanaugh was also honored as Academic All-MAC.

2012-2013:  Cavanaugh's season began with a first-place finish in the 200 butterfly against Xavier. He took second in the event at Evansville, but finished first in the 200 medley relay. Cavanaugh took third in the 100 fly and fourth in the 200 fly at Purdue, but took first in the 100 fly against Cleveland State. In the Miami Invitational, he swam to a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay and finished fifth in the 400 medley relay. He placed sixth in the 400 free relay and eighth in the 800 free relay, raced to a sixth-place spot in the 200 fly, and finished 13th in the 100 fly and 18th in the 400 IM. The junior swimmer finished first in the 400 medley relay and 100 fly and second in the 200 fly at Cincinnati, then took third in the 200 fly and fourth in the 100 fly against Buffalo. He placed in those same spots for both events against Eastern Michigan, but went runner-up in the 200 fly against Ball State. At the 2013 MAC Championships, Cavanaugh finished ninth in the 200 fly final.

2010-11: Finished 16th in the 200 fly at the MAC Championships ... won the 200 IM against Evansville with a time of 1:59.05 ... placed second twice during the season ... finished 11th in the 200 fly, 22nd in the 100 fly, 29th in the 50 free and 30th in the 100 free at the Miami Invitational ... swam top times of 1:53.94 in the 200 fly, 51.82 in the 100 fly, 4:54.89 in the 500 free, 47.74 in the 100 free, 21.73 in the 50 free and 1:59.05 in the 200 IM.

High School: All-district all four years, all-state sophomore-senior years ... Academic All-American senior year ... finished second and sixth, respectively in the 100 and 200 freestyles his senior year at state ... finished third and fifth, respectively in the 100 and 50 freestyles his junior year at state ... holds five school records.
