OXFORD, Ohio – For the sixth year in a row, the Miami University women’s tennis team will compete in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship after the RedHawks defeated Buffalo 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Hepburn Varsity Tennis Courts. The MAC Championship match will take place at noon on Sunday and Miami will face No. 3 seed Eastern Michigan.
In doubles action, senior Christiana Raymond and sophomore Ana Rajkovic made quick work of their No. 3 opponent with a decisive 8-2 win. Playing at No. 1 doubles, senior Nimisha Mohan and freshman Andreea Badileanu defeated their opponent, 8-4 to clinch the doubles point for Miami. The No. 2 match was not finished since the doubles point had already been decided but at the time of abandonment, Miami’s duo of juniors Christine Guerrazzi and Alix Thurman was leading 7-3.
Heading into the singles portion of the match, Miami needed three wins out of the six remaining matches in order to secure their seat in the MAC Championship game. Badileanu led the charge for Miami, finishing up first at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win. Rajkovic handed in the next win with a 6-4, 6-2 showing at No. 6. Raymond then clinched the match with her 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles to send the RedHawks into the MAC Championship. No. 1, 4 and 5 singles were abandoned since the match had already been decided.
No. 3 seed Eastern Michigan bucked No. 2 seed Ball State, 4-0 at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon in order to advance on to the MAC Championship.
